The idea behind THCME took shape in spring 2017, as a necessary response to a meeting between two old school friends that had not seen each other for over 30 years. One had unfortunately a few years before been diagnosed multiple sclerosis and needed cannabis medicine to get through the hours of the day without too much pain and with some functionality. The other realized that if she were to help her old friend, something had to happen drastically. Not just for his sake, but for the many thousands of other affected people who are in the same situation.
The rest of 2017 therefore went on to mapping the legislation on both the cannabis medicine area in Denmark as well as in relation to self-cultivating as well as producing and taking own produced or purchased cannabis medicine. In this connection, there has been great contact with especially affected people in order to hear more about their needs – not only for access to cheap quality medicine but also any other needs as advice in areas of cannabis like medicine and food, how to cultivate cannabis plants, etc. In addition, relevant professionals such as lawyers, police, prison officers, doctors, nurses, drug addicts, chefs, etc. as well as any of the (fortunately) many amazing people who currently help the affected people have access to their cannabis medicine. In spring 2018, the initial steps towards the establishment of THCME were taken as an association in Denmark, which now allows us to lift our work in relation to the fight for the right to cannabis as medicine.
Due to the purpose of THCME, including the association’s various efforts, is illegal in Denmark, a large part of the work on the construction of THCME has been carried out abroad. Here countries like Holland, Barcelona and Morocco were selected as important countries to include as well as Belgium in relation to EU legislation and Romania to have an Eastern European country (however, should have been Croatia but Romania was chosen partly because of their strict legislation in the area) Germany as the largest country in Europe and England because they were / are on their way out of the EU. There has been and is still ongoing contact with more in the respective countries that have contributed to the preparation of THCME. Several of the selected countries were also countries due to the relationship of another work, often visited as well as had a great deal of knowledge and a network that made this great work possible.
